Hello everyone! This is Chobokkang. Today, I'm going to review MotionVFX's mTuber 4 plugin, optimized for YouTubers. It promises easy application of stylish effects, transitions, and text animations, but is it really worth the price? I've used it myself and thoroughly analyzed it, so please stay with me until the end! Let's get started. 😊
Why Should You Pay Attention to MotionVFX and mTuber 4? 🤔
Honestly, while Final Cut Pro offers a wide range of plugins, DaVinci Resolve has been relatively limited. Although DaVinci Resolve provides powerful color grading and an excellent free version, many video creators have felt a lack of plugins. I felt that way too!
In this situation, MotionVFX, famous for its high-quality plugins for Final Cut Pro, started developing plugins for DaVinci Resolve users quite some time ago. Thanks to this, DaVinci Resolve creators can now also utilize various optimized templates and effects to further enhance their video quality. In particular, mTuber 4, the latest plugin from MotionVFX, incorporates their cutting-edge technology and is available for both Final Cut and DaVinci Resolve, so be sure to check it out.
This review was produced with product support from MotionVFX, and I tested the DaVinci Resolve version. All evaluations are based on my personal experience, so please take them as my honest opinion!
What Features Does mTuber 4 Offer? 📊
The intro video you saw earlier was also created using mTuber 4, and I've been actively using this plugin in my recent videos. Unlike most plugins that offer only single functions like titles or transitions, mTuber 4 is a comprehensive plugin that provides all the elements needed for video production. So, by purchasing just this one, you get multiple plugins at once. This plugin has evolved from mTuber 1 to the current mTuber 4, and its completeness has been further enhanced through continuous updates. However, currently, only mTuber 2 and later versions are available for purchase.
Now, I'll introduce some of the mTuber 4 plugin features I frequently use. If you've installed it correctly, you'll find it within the Toolbox in the Effects tab. I usually search for it, but if you mark frequently used ones with a star, you can save them to your Favorites for more convenient access!
1. Camera Movements 🎥
This feature adds dynamic movement to your videos. In particular, the 3D Scroll effect is incredibly useful, making the video appear to scroll slightly. You can adjust various values like zoom pivot, tilt, pan, and roll to create your desired movement. If you have a background behind your video, you can turn off the background option to reveal your custom background. Think of it as MotionVFX's mCamRig features conveniently separated for easier use.
- 3D Scroll: Adds depth to your video with an immersive scrolling effect.
- Zoom & Pan/Tilt/Roll: Precise camera movement control to focus on specific areas.
- Custom Movement: Define start and end points for controlled motion, great for highlighting segments.
- Barrel Effect: Creates dynamic screen transitions with left-right expansion.
2. Placeholder 🖼️
I use this to display specific screens in a smaller size, add bounce effects, or create unfolding effects like origami. You can control the scale, position, rotation, and even the movement of the internal content. I particularly often use the Screen effect, which creates a grid pattern, making it look like an LCD screen. The grid density and color are also adjustable, making it highly versatile. Vertical Footage is similar to MotionVFX's mVertical and is useful for handling vertical videos.
- Bounce/Origami Effect: Adds fun entrance animations to your screen.
- Screen Effect: Creates an LCD screen-like appearance with a grid pattern, adjustable grid settings.
- Vertical Footage: Provides mirror/copy/scale options for vertical video integration.
3. Background & Intro 🌟
There are many beautiful background templates with text that are great for adding a focal point to otherwise plain screens. You can edit the text and even change the font to Korean fonts. The Intro feature allows you to add your logo and custom text to create a stylish video opening, which is a feature I've been using frequently lately. It looks really nice when I put my channel name like 'RookieTalk'!
4. Media & Tools 🛠️
Among the media functions, the effect that makes the background look like a blog post is really pretty, and I use it a lot. You can add avatars, usernames, and comments, making it suitable for social media content. The Focus function within the Tools is outstanding. It's incredibly useful for enlarging a specific area and blurring the surroundings to emphasize it. By adjusting Feather and Corner Radius, you can even create circular highlights, which is perfect for highlighting specific points in your video!
5. Transitions & Typography ✨
Transitions make video changes smooth and stylish. There are various options like logo transitions, screen push transitions, and zoom-in transitions. I particularly love the side-swipe transition, it's really beautiful. Typography also offers many styles, including changing text character by character, scrolling text at the bottom, and typography that highlights specific points, which is especially useful. Be aware that Korean fonts might break, so always check your font settings.
When using mTuber 4, ensure you select the correct resolution (e.g., 4K) for your project to achieve optimal quality. Also, Korean fonts might appear broken, so remember to change the font settings to a standard Korean font!
mTuber 4: Price and Smart Purchase Tips 💰
Although I couldn't explain each plugin in detail, I believe you can see how much this single plugin can enhance your video quality. With various elements like titles, transitions, and effects included, you can effectively upgrade your video quality with just one plugin.
However, plugins are not a panacea. Over-reliance on plugins can make your videos look uniform, so the key is to use them appropriately alongside natural editing.
The biggest drawback of this product is its price. MotionVFX plugins are high-quality but also come with a high price tag, which can be a burden if you purchase them individually. So, I have a recommendation for DaVinci Resolve users.
📝 Smart Tips for Purchasing MotionVFX Plugins!
- Wishlist Plugins: Add a few necessary plugins to your wishlist in advance.
- Bundle Purchase: The discount rate varies depending on the number of plugins you buy, so it's best to purchase them all at once when needed.
- Check Max Discount: Note that the discount rate doesn't keep increasing indefinitely; there's a maximum discount.
- Membership & Events: If you sign up for a MotionVFX membership, you can also receive special discount event news, so I recommend using this method as well.
Links for product purchase can be found in the description and pinned comments. For Final Cut Pro users, mTuber 4 is available through DesignStudio, so I highly recommend trying the 14-day free trial before making a purchase.
Conclusion: Key Takeaways 📝
In conclusion, while plugins are not an absolute necessity for video production, they are certainly very useful tools for enhancing video quality. By selecting only the essential functions and taking advantage of discount periods, you can significantly elevate your video's production value at a reasonable cost.
