🇸🇬 Singapore Guide: Must-Visit Merlion Park, Chinatown Food & Stunning Clarke Quay Night View-Day 3

Is your Singapore trip ruined by rain? Not at all! From the moody Big Bus tour to warming Bak Kut Teh and the serene temple. Discover how to turn a rainy day in Singapore into a memorable family adventure. ☔️

It was the last morning of our trip, and as I looked out the window, rain was pouring down. 🌧️ My first thought was, "Oh no, we have the Big Bus tour scheduled today!" I had this romantic image of riding on the open-top deck, feeling the wind in my hair.

However, travel is always full of surprises. Thanks to the rain, the hot soup tasted even better, and we were able to explore the temple with a calmer mind. Are you worried about the weather in Singapore? Let me share my "rainy day reversal" itinerary with you! 😊

Big Bus Tour in the Rain 🚌

Finding the bus stop was our first challenge. We went to the spot on the map, but there was no driver... Turns out, the departure point was further down. (Make sure you don't get lost like we did! 😅)

We finally found the 'BIG BUS & DUCK' redeem center and exchanged our tickets. We hopped on the Yellow Line and went up to the second floor. Because of the rain, the outer seats were soaking wet, so everyone was huddled in the covered section. Still, touring the city in the rain while listening to the audio guide through earphones had its own unique, moody vibe.

💡 Good to Know!
For the Big Bus, you often cannot just scan a QR code on the bus. You usually need to visit the Redeem Centre first to exchange it for a physical ticket or receipt. Check this before you head to the stop!

Taste of Chinatown: Comfort Food 🍜

Since it was rainy and a bit chilly, we decided on 'Song Fa Bak Kut Teh' for lunch. It's a must-eat health food in Singapore! The warm, peppery broth warmed us right up. I personally love eating it with rice, but my wife and kid preferred dipping 'Mee Sua' (flour vermicelli) in the soup.

After the meal, we headed straight to the 'Yakun Kaya Toast' main branch nearby. Sweet Kaya toast with a cup of Milo! ☕ It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory.

📍 Chinatown Highlights

Place Activity Note
Song Fa Bak Kut Teh Lunch Unlimited broth refill, Try Mee Sua
Buddha Tooth Relic Temple Sightseeing Tooth relic (4F), Rooftop garden
Yakun Kaya Toast Snack Main branch vibe, Dip toast in eggs
Neil Rd & Keong Saik Rd Walking Pastel buildings, Great for photos
⚠️ Caution!
On the 4th floor of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, where the sacred tooth relic is enshrined, photography and videography are strictly prohibited. Please capture the moment with your eyes and heart only! 🙏

Romantic Night at Clarke Quay 🛥️

We ended our day by walking from Merlion Park to Clarke Quay to enjoy the night view. We sent my sister-in-law and nephew on the river boat, while my wife and I sat by the riverbank waiting for them.

Watching people enjoy their drinks and seeing the lights reflect on the river... The night air in Singapore felt exceptionally warm that day. It was a short trip, but the laughter we shared will remain in my memory for a long time.

📝

Frequently Asked Questions ❓

Q: Can I sit on the 2nd floor of Big Bus when it rains?
A: The front part of the 2nd floor is covered, so you can sit there. However, the open-air back section gets wet. It's better to wear a raincoat or sit on the 1st floor.
Q: Is there an entrance fee for Buddha Tooth Relic Temple?
A: No, admission is free. However, dress modestly. If your attire is too revealing, you can borrow a cover-up at the entrance.
Q: Is the queue long for Song Fa Bak Kut Teh?
A: Yes, there is usually a queue during peak lunch/dinner times. However, the turnover is quite fast, so the wait is manageable.
